Our Worship In October

Enough - Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity

This 4-Part Series will be our focus in October as we discover what the Bible shares about our relationship to things and our money.  Each week will share practical information and tools relevant to our financial situations.  At the end of this series, we will consider our pledge of money to the mission and ministry of our church for 2011 and consecrate those pledges on October 31 and November 7.  The following prayer will daily prepare us for this time of reflection.

Contentment Prayer:  Lord, help me to be grateful for what I have, to remember that I don’t need most of what I want, and that joy is found in simplicity and generosity.

October 3 – 19th Sunday after Pentecost

“When Dreams Become Nightmares”

Ecclesiastes 5:10; 1 Timothy 6:10b; Matthew 16:26

The “American Dream” may have tricked us into unhealthy views and financial practices.

What now?  How can we re-align our values to match what God has given us as guidance?

Special Music:

“Be Thou My Vision” Clark Williamson, organist; “Come to the Table” Chancel Choir

October 10 – 20th Sunday after Pentecost

“Wisdom and Finance”

Proverbs 21:5; 21:20

Our money should help us fulfill our calling in life rather than take over and “become” that calling.

How can we reverse that demand and put money back in its intended place?

Special Music:

“You Are My All and All” Gospel Guys and Angie Hoerner; “God Be in My Head” Chancel Choir

October 17 – 21st Sunday after Pentecost

“Cultivating Contentment”

Ecclesiastes 2:10-11; Hebrews 13:5-6; Luke 12:15

We’ll explore how we can purposely change our position on the continuum between

discontentment and contentment and lead a more “simple” life?

Special Music:

Several selections by a guest Brass Quintet; “Go Into the House of the Lord” Chancel Choir

October 24 – 22nd Sunday after Pentecost

“Defined by Generosity”

Proverbs 11:24-25, 22:9; 1 Timothy 6:17-19

What is it that defines your life?  What are you giving your life to?

God calls us to generosity and when we respond to that call, we experience joy.

Special Music:

“God of Wonders” Youth Vocal Ensemble

“More Precious Than Silver” Youth Bell Choir; “Look at the World” Chancel Choir

October 31 – 23rd Sunday after Pentecost

“Music Ministries Sunday”

“Days of Elijah” Chancel Choir; “Wayfaring Stranger” John Wesley Bell Choir

Power & Light Singers and piano, vocal solos & duets

Four speakers will share what impact sacred music has on their lives.

We’ll have a time during this service to bring your commitment cards to the altar for prayer.
